Save-an-Acre Project
MALT’s Save-an-Acre Project allows people like you, who care about our heritage of family farming and extraordinary vistas, to have a direct impact on the future of Marin.
Your contribution preserves land and directly supports:
- A local farming industry with a growing reputation for excellence: award-winning cheeses from artisan producers like Cowgirl Creamery and Point Reyes Farmstead; Straus organic dairy products at your local store; delicious strawberries from County Line Harvest; sustainable meat from Stemple Creek Ranch; and abundant organic produce at local farmers’ markets.
- Leadership in sustainable farming practices including offsetting global warming with methane digesters at two MALT ranches, and through MALT’s work on the Marin Carbon Project
- Clean water, air and abundant wildlife
- The beautiful, historic rural landscape of West Marin that provides a respite from urban life for visiting drivers, cyclists, hikers, kayakers and families.
Dollar-for-dollar Match

The average per acre cost of purchasing a conservation easement in Marin is $4,500.
However, through the efficiency of MALT’s public-private funding model, each of your tax-deductible contributions of $2,250 is matched, empowering MALT to protect one more acre of farmland, forever.
This thriving farmland in the country’s sixth-largest metropolitan area isn’t something we can take for granted. More than 50,000 acres of farmland are at risk of development —and you can help save it, one acre at a time.
